HDR - First Attempts

Inspired by others who have taken some amazing HDR or High Dynamic Range Imaging photographs, I’ve decided to jump in and try my hand at this. Below are some photos I shot this morning. Comments and critical analysis are welcome.

  1. Nice. “St. Andrew’s Orthodox Church - Arlington, WA” especially stands out because of the golden dome/crosses and clouds. HDR is nice for making more evenly exposed standard shots, which is what most of your shots (with the exception of the aforementioned shot) in this post are. However, to get truly spectacular results, you need to look for stuff with high contrast with big exposure differences throughout the frame. This is something that I have not come close to even being an intermediate on.

  2. Yes, my most recent HDR post “Heather Lake” had a lot of exposure variance and I’m pretty happy with the results, though it is very time consuming to get an HDR shot to look good without that overly “HDR look” that I don’t care for.
